The unemployment diaries: day one

Being unemployed is reminding me of Odd Todd. Anyone remember him? Click that shit, it's funny.

Also funny and amazing and creative and total gold: ADVENTURE TIME!

mucho thanks to the also awesome threedeeglasses for the knowledge.

I have some questions for you, dear readers...

Have you ever used a job site to FIND work?
Have you ever posted your resume on a job site? If so, were there any results?

I've been all over monster and workopolis and findmeafuckingjobPULEEZE.orgcomnet and I'm not convinced it works. Tell me it does.

Day one. Expect more blogs. Bloggerfall. Blognado. Blogicane. it's gonna be a loooong week.

oh, and music.

Starting with Icarus. I first discovered these guys back in 1998 when I was travelling in Europe, and picked up their 12" "Kamikaze", which was more on the drum n bass/breakcore tip...they mellowed with age, apparently, as their sound now is much more on the broken beat/glitch end of things...delicious, indeed.

Check these two songs from their amazing 2004 record on The Leaf Label, "I Tweet The Birdy Electric".

Essen
&
Gnog.
Enjoy.

only because you freaked out on me for telling you this in a cyberspace location outside of your blog am i posting a comment here.

jobsites = work. not only that, but how can it hurt? so, you throw your resume out to the world and someone will come across it. even if it doesn't work out, it's at least worth a shot.

it got me a job, two in fact, and a few offers.

yep yup yeah. back when i was looking for a career shift i applied for a job on a job site, said job was placed on said job site by said employement group (hired to find staff for organizations that either don't have the time or resources to hunt down their own staff)for them. said employment group called me and sent me to not one but several interviews, i had my pick o' the litter, (the one i originally applied for... :S ) anyhow, they work. it doesn't hurt, that's for sure. it ended up saving me time and effort. helps to have marketable skillz, but clearly you're rad so .... xo

better = checking company websites directly. Many only post the jobs there
also better = getting in touch with an agency that deals with creative types and industries you may be interested in. Generally it's really hard to get their attention via email because they get so many, so it's best to drop by and talk to someone. If you're lucky someone will be free & you'll talk to more than the receptionist

ps - T.O is the hub of such agencies, for creative types and all. In this day & age talent sells

i've never posted my resume on job sites but i've looked for jobs and have found a few potentials. i've never gotten a job from one, but i've had interviews. mind you, that was using charityvillage.com which is a smaller job site than monster or the like, and is for jobs in the non-profit/lefty organization sector.

i find the bigger sites are more for like tech-y or business or sales type jobs. not so much the creative ones.

i find that it really is all about networking and connections. and communicating with potential places you wanna work for or agencies that deal with those types of places would probably be a better bet.

but good luck! xo.
