purr

My cat's belly is heaving; she's near-comatose but twitching, her tail keeping a lazy beat on the tabletop. She, like the rest of the animals, can tell that the end of summer is creeping. The air feels different, crisper and easier to walk through. My bike seems to ride faster, like it's chilly and wants to get where it's going sooner, not later. There are leaves on the ground.

I'm getting ahead of myself. It's supposed to be +29 the day after next.

I've just discovered Mary Robison, thanks to Leah. She brought home a book of Robison's collected works today and I am blown away by her abilty to say so much with so few words. I sometimes forget just how efficient language can get - or as my friend Greg would say, 'there is much to be said for brevity.'

el oh el.

I don't have much to say. Some amazing bands were seen. Others are yet to come.

Edit: This just in - Amazing photos of said AIDSWolf show.

I leave you with this...

...and a request: I want to hear how everyone's summer has been, WITH a rating on a scale from A to 7.

....and.....GO!

You! Me! Dancing!

This will be brief. The Welsh kids are forcing me to gush.

Everything you hear about Los Campesinos! is absolutely true. All the good parts, anyways. Let's review the facts:

-7 members - 3 girls, 4 boys? present.

-violin? check. keyboards? check.

-unbridled youthful enthusiasm, joyous live performances, jumping, clapping, shouting? yep, got it.

-two heaping cups of twee, a dash of pop-punk a'la Mint in the 90s, whipped to a froth with the ecstatic energy of Architecture in Helsinki and I'm From Barcelona.

Get it yet? No? Check the myspace. You'll get it then. There's something in the water in Wales, I know it.

I saw the band last night and they blew my fucking mind. I was prepared to have reservations - normally I have thick skin when it comes to highly praised albums, and so-called legendary live shows...but they lived up to every last ounce of hype. Modest, grateful, energetic, HAPPY, FUN, EXCITING - they were everything and more.

Also living up to the hype this week...

BEACHES!
Leah and I went and had a night picnic with some friends last friday at Kew Park beach...it's amazing to me how gigantic this city is, that one can simply hop on a streetcar at the end of the block and be whisked away to sand and sun, with a quick stop for sushi and tall cans of Stella.

CABBAGETOWN!
What a NEAT neighbourhood I live next to! I've heard about it forever since we moved here, but hadn't checked it out until Saturday when we rode bikes in and around it - enormous old houses, their stories gleaming through stained glass windows, intricate crawling vines and hanging basket chairs. Cute AND filled to the brim with history! I love it!

DAFT PUNK!

Nuff said. It was insane.

See you on the other side of the week!
